Are you ready for a challenge?

After reading this chapter you might be motivated to make some real changes in the way you consume and dispose of plastic in your own day-to-day life.

Sort your waste
In many countries it is mandatory to sort your household waste into metal, plastics, paper and other waste, but even if you do not have this option you might still be able to hand over sorted waste at your local recycling station. In any case it is a good exercise to sort your plastic waste to see how much plastic you actually accumulate in a normal household.
The challenge might be to measure the amount of plastic waste in a giving period and then decide to cut down on plastic in the next period.
Use the tips from the “Use less plastic” section of this chapter, and try to minimise your plastic consumption.
If you do sort your waste it will be easy to monitor how much you can reduce your plastic waste.

Collect plastic in your hometown
When you walk in your own home area you might see a lot of plastic waste lying around. Make it a habit to carry a bag with you to collect waste in, and then find a waste bin to put it in.
Organise a waste picking trip with kids and family and friends to www how much waste you can find and clean up.

Challenge the system
Another challenge can be to research the option you have locally to dispose of specific types of household waste like plastic, paper, glass and metal, and then decide to use this option when you have to dispose of your waste.
Talk to friends and colleagues about the waste options, and find out if you have local stakeholder groups that are working to roll out a waste sorting system in your area.
